Miyake’s menswear newbie Yusuke Takahashi presents kaleidoscopic colours and energetic patterns, to a high tempo soundtrack
At their usual show spot, the beautiful Place des Vosges in central Paris, Japanese cult brand Issey Miyake and its relatively new menswear designer, Yusuke Takahashi, opened up day two at Paris menswear on Thursday morning. As his sophomore outing, having been appointed in June last year, Takahasi continued Issey Miyake’s love affair with fabrics, showing a collection divided in to three sections: Harsh Nature, Aurora Borealias & Glaciers, and Magnificent Rainbows. Prism fabrics, homespun nylon, the classic Issey pleat and batik dyed fabric dominated the catwalk. Though materials were key, it was the colours in the last section that came to define the AW14 collection; “an energetic world of rainbow patterns as if seen through a kaleidoscope” closed the show. All throughout, the show soundtrack by Yannick Grandjean kept the tempo high and upbeat.
