Soundtrack: Bottega Veneta SS14

We exclusively premiere the jazz-heavy beat from Tomas Maier’s Milan show

It’s difficult to reinvent yourself, especially when the fashion cycle demands you present two inspired collections every year. Bottega Veneta, essentially an Italian purveyor of smart luxury goods, often tackle formal tailoring from an off-beat point of view: in the past we’ve seen printed patterns contrasted with wool and cashmere jackets. For SS14, that ambition played out through painted stitch details and suit jackets with a distinctively casual cut and fit. Set to instrumental jazz melodies (think Miles Davies) and the odd hip hop-esque beat – and premiered here on Port today – Bottega’s Creative Director, Tomas Maier, set out to contrast his luxe fabric choices with a modern and contemporary look of boxy tops with sloped shoulders and slim bottoms. This idea of juxtaposing opposites was reinforced by the mixture of eclectic and urban music with Bottega’s undisputed love of artisanal leather craftsmanship.
