Bag It Up: The Best Technical Designer Bags

Inspired by the Prada Invites range, we round up the best technical accessories to buy right now

In 2018, Prada took the bold step of inviting four distinguished architects and product designers – each uniquely synonymous with brave, industrial aesthetics – to conceive an item using the brand’s iconic nylon fabric, for the ‘Prada Invites’ initiative.

German designer Konstantin Grcic took his invite as an opportunity to pay homage to the inimitable artist and intellectual, Joseph Beuys, whom Grcic briefly resided near, early on in life – admiring his ad hoc-seeming dress sense from afar. Beuys’ staple garment was a fishing vest, made for him by his wife, covered in small secretive pockets for technical kit. Grcic borrowed this look for his apron waist bag for Prada, combining the practical with the stylish, and hinting at the bold lines of workwear.

The Prada Invites range is only available in selected stores, so, for those of you who won’t be swinging by any time soon, we’ve rounded up the best online alternatives here.
