What To Wear For An Off-Grid Weekend In Scotland
Prepare for a remote, 4G-free getaway with our top all-weather items

Living life constantly connected has its perks. A few taps on a screen can beam a film to your TV, hail a taxi at the end of a long night, and even deliver a warm meal to your door.
But being plugged in permanently also means being on-call 24 hours a day, 364 days a year (with Christmas day being about the only time now it is acceptable not to reply to an email).
The very concept of a work/life balance begins to feel laughable at times. But going off-grid to, say, a Scottish island, can be just the tonic to temper email exhaustion.
Here, we pick three essential items for a long weekend in the Highlands.
Denim Days
Once out of town, it’s likely that you’ll spend much of your time on two feet up against the elements. So, while packing, eschew any flimsy tailored trousers and instead take a robust pair of selvedge jeans. Edwin’s are made from 14 oz denim, which will start out stiff and heavy, but will mould to your shape after a few dozen wears.

The Perfect Parka
In an average year the Scottish Highlands see rain 250 days a year, meaning a hooded parka is a necessity whatever the month. Closed’s is made from a three-layer membrane, making it wind resistant, water-repellent and breathable. Reflective stripes and bold orange panels are both aesthetically pleasing and practical when venturing away from the beaten track.
