A Modern State of Mind

Learn from the masters to bring ageless modernist appeal to your home

We make no secret of the fact, here at Port, that we love an artfully balanced and stylish modernist interior, and none more so than the consummate example pictured here: The Homewood, by Patrick Gwynne. Situated among picturesque woodland in Esher, Surrey, The Homewood was designed in 1938 by Gwynne for his family at the tender age of  24. The property sits on stilts and features a breathtaking open-plan living room, which showcases some of our favourite elements of this style: The interplay between cold, industrial materials and their warm, natural counterparts is a thing of beauty. Gwynne gifted the property to the National Trust in 1999. Thankfully, back in 2018, a new raft of online retailers are nailing this timeless aesthetic.
