London’s queen of classic minimalism on her inspiration and influences for next season
Ahead of her London Collections: Men show tomorrow, Margaret Howell share a few of her influences and collaborative projects with Port. As a design stalwart on London’s fashion scene, for both menswear and womenswear, Howell is part of the backbone of LC:M. Her ever so subtle fashion provides a serene break from the capital’s mishmash of Technicolor fashion. Hers is not a style dominated by trend. It’s not even fashion, arguably. It’s a style – maybe even a lifestyle. Classic quality and timeless elegance.
“Working with British suppliers, key pieces for AW14 season include a hooded parka made by Mackintosh, an army boot made by Tricker’s and a cable hand-knit by Marion Foale. All these pieces combine with our tailoring, which for this season includes moleskin and is cut to a slimmer fit. The moodboard suggests a relaxed attitude and a worn-in feeling with contrasting textures.”
