On 17 September, at their flagship store on London’s Shaftsbury Avenue, we’ll be unveiling a specially curated exhibition in collaboration with Italian furniture manufacturers Molteni &C. Taking Gio Ponti’s D.270.1 armchair as their starting point, Port have invited four British designers from the worlds of fashion, interior, stationary and textile design to upholster Ponti’s design, which will be exhibited in Molteni’s store for the duration of the design festival.Designers Becky French of Marwood, Jemma Ooi and Nathan Philpott of CUSTHOM, Richard and Esme Winter and upcoming textile designer Ffion Griffith have each upholstered two chairs in bespoke patterns woven for the event. Curated by Online Editor Betty Wood, the designers each bring a different approach to the brief informed by their own multi-disciplinary practices.

On the 17th, the designers will join Francesca Molteni and Betty Wood for a discussion about their practices, and contemporary textile design. We’ll be publishing a feature with the designers in early September, exploring the British textile industry.
