Photo Essay: Richard Nicoll Menswear AW13

Backstage photographer Morgan O’Donovan captured the colours, shapes and attitude of Nicoll’s second menswear show

Richard Nicoll’s sophomore menswear collection saw him adopt a more formal and directional attitude. Compared to last seasons’s graphic motifs, casual bombers and baseball caps, this was a suit and coat homage. And if SS13 was all about blue, then this collection focused on a broader colour palette incorporating orange, silver and turquoise against a grey and black background. A paint splatter print and silver leather attracted attention but, as is often the case with Nicoll’s collections, it was the more plain everyday colours and garments that stood out; trousers with a perfectly slouchy fit, angora knits and subtle biker jackets will form a great foundation in next year’s autumn wardrobe. Inspired by post-punk and no-wave rebellion, Richard Nicoll is about to make his very personal menswear vision indispensable to a 21st century wardrobe.
