Land Rover x Abercrombie & Kent: Adventure Travel

Land Rover Adventure Travel by Abercrombie & Kent - A Previous Land Rover Experience programme has navigated lands as far afield as the historic Silk Trail connecting Asia with Europe

The British adventure specialists combine forces on a unique series of expeditions that traverse the African Serengeti, the jungles of India, and the peaks of Britain

When you think of luxury brand collaborations, you probably think of high-end fashion houses and upcoming designers collaborating on a seasonal capsule collection. But the luxury travel and automotive markets are every bit as ripe for collaboration, as iconic British brands Abercrombie & Kent and Land Rover prove.

Their ‘Adventure Travel’ partnership, which launches this year in the UK, India and Tanzania, takes the founding ethos of both companies – a spirit of adventure – and combines them in a series of bespoke travel experiences.

“The African wilderness is where the Abercrombie and Kent story started” explains Kerry Golds, Managing Director of Abercrombie & Kent. “It seemed only fitting we have one of our maiden expeditions there. “Tanzania is an incredible country and our tours allow clients to self-drive through the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire National Parks”.

The challenging topography of the Tanzanian landscape pushes Land Rover’s all-terrain vehicles to their extreme, opening up the car to its maximum potential against a stunning backdrop. It also marks a departure for Abercrombie & Kent in that clients receive expert instruction by accompanying Land Rover Experience instructors, allowing them to go off-road and access the natural environment in a previously unprecedented way.

“From a Land Rover perspective, we choose destinations that are off the beaten track, where we know we can deliver a unique, memorable and exciting driving experience” adds Marcelle Duncan, Land Rover’s Brand Manager.

India, chosen for its geographical as well as cultural diversity also presents a challenging opportunity for the automotively inclined, crossing jungle and bamboo forests in search of the elusive Bengal tiger, and staying in some of the regions most luxurious wilderness accommodation along the way. It’s a real work-out for drivers.

It should be noted however, it’s not an entirely new relationship for the brands: “Land Rover have been part of A&K’s history from day one” explains Kelly, “as Geoffrey Kent founded the company [53 years ago] with little more than a couple of tents, a Land Rover and an ice-bucket”. In the ensuing decades, the duo have become synonymous with adventure, luxury and exploration in their own right – it seems fitting now that they take this next journey together.
